When your Story Calls you Home

Eventually the boundary between worlds begins to thin, the whispers grow louder and somewhere beneath all the noise, the story begins calling you home...

I have reached the point where the noise surrounding the story has become too loud.

Standing between worlds for too long has a way of blurring them both. I can't ignore its call anymore. I need to spend some time with Eldrice. It has never tolerated divided attention for very long.

I have been part of it for so long, posting and loving the drama of it on social media. I talk about it constantly and I love the characters like they are my own offspring. I have been living in fragments for so long I have been drifting, orbiting the story rather than living truly inside it.

I miss them. I miss my characters. I miss their world. The harsh truth is that our world rarely allows sustained emotional stillness for very long. We are constantly moving, balancing responsibilities, earning enough to survive, trying to build and share the very things we love creating. Somewhere within all of that movement, time begins slipping away from the story itself. I have spent so long sharing pieces of Eldrice that, somewhere along the way, I began drifting from fully living inside it.

There is a balance between sharing a world and living inside it long enough to hear it clearly again. That is what I am going to do. I am returning.

I have recently watched and engaged with the workshop JoJo Moyes has done for the BBC Maestro Series on Writing a Love Story. Something really jumped out at me. She calls it her 'immersion' stage. She goes away for a week and does nothing but write. She hides in a hotel room, calls in room service and writes. 'What that allows you to do is lock on to the story and not think about anyone or anything else.' (Jojo Moyes, BBE Maestro, Writing a Love Story, p.17)

It hit me because naturally that is what I do. I go away from the noise of life, I hide and I write. I get lost in the world, in the lore, the characters, the emotional core and it is so freeing. It's like actually being there, I live it and breathe it. The only thing close to the feeling is when your are so involved in a piece of music you feel like you have left reality in the sound. There is so much cross over in the arts.

I am doing the same now. Eldrice has never truly been quiet. I am ready to listen. So for a little while, I am returning fully to it again.

One day, and I hope soon, I will be able to bring you with me into the heart of Eldrice.

Until then…

Your ever-loving
